Second Series

2nd series of the Master Amateur Invitational is another land series. This test site is just a few hundred yards from series #1. This test site is in a wide valley with another field of tall cover that has been mowed into strips and from the drone view looks like a crazy quilt pattern. The line is set on top of ridge and the marks are landing down in the valley, mark #3 and the land blind are on the opposite ridge line across the valley.

This is the first walkup of the invitational. The walkup bird is in the middle of the field under 40 yards. This mark is thrown from left to right down the middle of the field toward the live flyer.  Handlers and dogs walk along the ridge line as the walkup bird is thrown. Some dogs crept toward the walkup bird as the terrain on the line sloped downhill.

Mark #2 is the live flyer and this is the longest mark in the series around 85 yards. The gun station is not visible to the dogs as it is tuck back into a gap along the ridge line. This bird is thrown from right to left and is a flat throw landing in the middle of the valley in various tall to short cover. Some flyers landed short of the gun station and others landed a fair distance out into the field. The farther out into the field the flyer landed the tighter the line between the walkup bird and the flyer.

The go bird is thrown from behind a large tree on the far side ridge line across the valley and is thrown from right to left slightly down hill around 75 yards from the line. The dogs must turn hard left from the flyer, past the walkup bird, to see the go bird. This bird lands along the sidehill.

After the marks are retrieved a single land blind is across the valley floor, under the arc of the walkup bird and up along the far ridge line and is around 80 yards from the line.

Some dogs had difficulty with the walkup bird if they blew past the mark and climbed up the far side ridge line and smelled the land blind location (the land blind is not hot). This did force some handlers to stop the dog and handle back down to the walkup bird.

The wind during this test was literally all over the place and would shift frequently in direction and speed.
